Beautiful tango is lost in the moment,
Present and then gone,
Internal, a secret shared by two who are one.
Tango thoughts
Riffs, thoughts, meditations, rhymes, stories, rants, ideas and... well I think you get the idea.
Una milonga… Pablo Veron & Teresa Cunha “Orillera”
Sigh, Teresa Cunha she’s amazing, most definately a tango girl crush.
Suede…
Suede shoes, ah suede shoes. For dancing? Now that takes a certain attitude, I’m not talking about suede that ends up looking dusty by the end of the night. No, the ones whose wearer has such skill that not only can she avoid an unwelcome ‘tache’ through contact with her partner whilst dancing, but where the feet make their way on the floor in perfect placement to avoid self destruction.
DJ Shadow & Terry Reid “Listen”
Amazing sounds herald a return to the light for DJ Shadow, with Terry Reid’s vocals and a fantastical stop animation by Franck Trebilliac. You may recognise the dance and one of the dancers. ‘Reconstructed: The Best of DJ Shadow’ is released on 24th September.
Roberto Rafael “Pocho” Carreras, entrevista ‘La Milonga Argentina’, Junio 2012
“When I began, people danced very well, the milongueros would speak to each other using the formal “You”, and they taught us that with your foot you had to comb the floor, without lifting it, without kicking another… If you were between two couples who knew how to dance, the one in front and the one behind were never going to bump into you, they could do a thousand arabesques, but would never hit anyone, for this reason one learnt to dance so well in this generation, for lack of space, because you had to do everything in a slip of a space and show everyone what you knew.”
Roberto Rafael “Pocho” Carreras, interview ‘La Milonga Argentina’, June 2012.

RIP Pocho.
‘Tango Libre’ at the Venice Film Festival
From time to time cinema’s limelight shines on Tango, the latest offering presented this week at the Venice Film Festival. “Tango Libre”, from what I could gleam, an intriguing scene setter of a woman and her son on the outside with two men (a lover/husband and an ex) on the inside. With the two men being best friends the stage is set as what seems like a domesticated ménage à trois. With two thirds of the relationship in prison, she discovers Tango and as the cliché goes, her life changes, but it does so in with an almost farcical twist and we go on to explore this journey and it’s fall out.
The first clip is news piece on the film and it’s two stars and the second (in French) reveals a little more about the film including the worlds coolest Tango dancing inmate, you think it could only be one person, and it is. From what I saw, it’s a film which doesn’t wax lyrical about the dance, but weaves Tango as part of its fabric, a refreshing change in the style of “Not Here to Be Loved“. The release date is slated for 7th November 2012, though nothing on the googlevine when it’s coming to screens in the UK yet.

Un Tango… Mariano “Chicho” Frumboli & Juana Sepulveda “Pata Ancha”
Chicho & Juana work their magic again. When I watched this video it reminded me of something I mentioned in class at the last edition of abrazos, about the contrast of dancing rhythms and melodies. Lots of that here. My favourite is at 2mins 40s. Enjoy.

Un Tango… Pablo Veron & Monica “Recuerdo”
As the Tango world remembers Osvaldo Pugliese today here’s a tango from a young Pablo Veron, in a Sunderland that seems quite different from what we know it to be today.
