Christmas is around the corner, but today is ‘Tango Day’, when since 1977 Argentina has celebrated tango. Taking the birthday of one of the most influential musicians and composers, Julio de Caro. Tango today is global, and with ‘national’ becoming ‘world’ lots of us are smiling and hugging a bit more today.
Lots of us know about the twelve days of Christmas, but I thought it would be nice to have the ‘8 days of Tango’ here on the blog. So I will be posting tandas, videos, quotes amongst other things a little more than usual. Today we start with Julio de Caro, who else?
¡Feliz día del Tango!
Beautiful tango is lost in the moment,
Present and then gone,
Internal, a secret shared by two who are one.
Amazing sounds herald a return to the light for DJ Shadow, with Terry Reid’s vocals and a fantastical stop animation by Franck Trebilliac. You may recognise the dance and one of the dancers. ‘Reconstructed: The Best of DJ Shadow’ is released on 24th September.
