a taste of tango

General Questions

I haven't danced Tango before, where do I start?

Do our Taster session, it's a great introduction to Tango.
After the Taster you're ready to come to the group classes without feeling like you've been thrown in at the deep end.

Do I need a partner?

You don't need a partner for the taster or the group classes,
but bringing one certainly helps, so why not ask a friend, colleague or a relative! Note: Jenney encourages partners to swap during the classes.

I want updates, do you have a mailing list?

Yes we do, it's hosted by Mailchimp and you can sign up here.

How long does it take to learn Tango?

Tango is a dance whose boundaries know no limits. As with any artform you will always be working on something. Learning the basics is simple, you should be able to dance a little after the Taster.
Give yourself a decent amount of time and effort, come to class, go to a practica to practise what you've learnt in class, take a private lesson now and again to look at any problems you're having in detail. Remember it's how you want to dance that requires effort and hard work, many dancers will revisit basics to improve again and again. That is the beauty of it.

Booking

Can I pay over the phone?

Unfortunately we can't accept card payments over the phone. If you are having problems paying please send a message through the contact page.

Can I reserve places?

Unfortunately we don't accept reservations, it just makes the numbers too complicated to track. We like groups that aren't too big so that Jenney can get around to everyone and give them some personal attention. The best way for us to keep a handle on that is with confirmed places that are paid for.

What happens after I've paid for my place?

Your name goes on a list and you can just turn up on the day. Don't forget to bring your proof of payment.

Get the gear and some idea

Do I need special shoes for class?

Shoes should be thin soled and not sticky, you will need to pivot (turn) in your shoes. A strap holding your foot in your shoe is important (no flip flops or slip ons) and a lower heel is advised for ladies who are starting out. We suggest jazz shoes for class and you can read more about that here.

What should I wear?

Whatever you like as long as it is comfortable and easy to move in. Remember the sessions are for learning so save the LBD for the milonga. You may get a little hot. Make sure that the deodorant is in action and you smell good (not overpowering) beforehand and are able to stay that way (spare shirt?).
